The first ten minutes

A fresh desk, no keys, ten minutes. This is the order we would open things in.

Minute one: the address

Open http://localhost:8765. The sidebar on the left lists every screen in four groups: Desks, Watchlists, Intelligence and Market, with Settings at the bottom. The dot in the top bar says whether the home market is open; with nothing connected yet it stays off.

Desk · Home is dark on a fresh copy, and it says so in plain words, with the three ways to put a book on it. Leave it for now.

Minutes two to four: the screens that need nothing

Open these in turn. Each one is live from the public record with no key at all.

• Commodities: fifty-one commodities in seven groups, each with its level, five change windows and the distance from its five-year high. Click any card and it shows the industries a rise squeezes and the industries it helps, with the US names mapped to them and the raw-material share each one filed itself.
• Funds: the latest 13F filing of every fund on the list, straight from SEC EDGAR, with what changed since the quarter before.
• Flow: the options tape on the US names, from CBOE's free delayed chains: put/call, the walls, the expected move, unusual strikes.
• Short: FINRA short interest and the daily short-volume ratio, kept apart on purpose.
• Capitol: Senate and House trading disclosures on the names, with how stale each filing already is.
• Macro: the FRED series in groups with two-year sparklines, and the economic calendar for the next ten days.

The first visit to Capitol takes a minute or two while the desk downloads and reads recent House disclosures; after that it is seconds.

Minutes five and six: a ticker

Press Command and K together (Control and K on Windows) and type a US ticker. The ticker page opens with the chart, the quote, ratios and the insider table from EDGAR, all keyless. The chart has candle and line modes, seven ranges, and a fullscreen button.

Minutes seven and eight: a book by hand

Open Desk · Book. Add a line with any symbol Yahoo Finance knows, in any market, and the number of shares and your average cost, or paste your whole holdings list. It is priced from Yahoo's free feed, US listings close to live and most other exchanges fifteen to twenty minutes behind, with value, day move, profit since cost and weight, one currency at a time. Risk then measures that book too.

Minutes nine and ten: Settings

Open Settings, the last entry in the sidebar. Nothing on it is required. Read down it once so you know what is there: your broker, picked from a list; the home market, which follows the broker; your data provider; your own AI, from any lab or a model running on your computer; the address that lets an AI agent on your computer read the desk; a short page on how you invest; and two switches, Start with the computer and Newer versions.
