Where the keys come from

At developer.schwab.com create an app and add the Accounts and Trading product. Set its callback address; Schwab requires one that starts with https, and https://127.0.0.1 is allowed. Schwab approves the app by hand, which takes a day or two. When the app says Ready for Use, copy the app key and the app secret.

On Settings

Pick Charles Schwab · United States, paste the key and the secret, and click Save and connect. Leave Callback address empty if the app uses https://127.0.0.1; otherwise put it in exactly as it reads on the app. The desk saves the keys and then asks for this week's sign-in.

Once a week

Click Open the broker login. Sign in on Schwab's page, then press Done. The page that follows is often blank, or says the site cannot be reached; its address is still the right one. Copy that whole address into the box and click Connect. Because Schwab's callback has to be an https address, the address does not arrive in the desk by itself.

The key that sign-in gives lasts seven days, and the desk works out a fresh half-hour pass from it on its own for as long as the week lasts. When the week is up, "Schwab's week key is spent" asks for the sign-in again.

No live prices from the broker, no futures, no margin bar, no options tape through this read. The options tape on US names is on the Flow screen for every reader. Nothing places an order.
