Angel One

India. A free SmartAPI app, your client code, your trading PIN and the authenticator secret. With those four the desk signs in by itself, so there is nothing to paste each day. The Indian market file serves the home screens.

Where the keys come from

At smartapi.angelone.in create an app, which is free, and copy its API key. Then you need three things from your Angel One account:

  1. Your client code, the id you log in to Angel One with.
  2. Your trading PIN.
  3. The authenticator secret: the letters shown beside the QR code when you switched TOTP on for the account. Angel One makes you enrol an authenticator app. The desk wants the letters behind the QR code; the six-digit code the app shows will not work here.

SmartAPI has no redirect login. The desk signs in with these four and works the six digits out itself each time.

On Settings

Pick Angel One (SmartAPI) · India, fill the four boxes, and click Save and connect. The desk signs in at once and says how many holdings it found. A wrong key, code or PIN comes back as "Angel One did not accept this session" with what to check. "Signed in but handed back no session key" means TOTP is not switched on for the account.

The PIN and the authenticator secret sit in the settings file on your computer, the same place as every other broker key, and the desk never shows them back.

What Desk · Home shows

Every holding with quantity, average cost and the price Angel One reports for it, and cash from the account's funds read. A line Angel One does not price is marked from Yahoo.

The desk asks Angel One for live prices on Watch · Home and the ticker page, with the buy and sell quotes. SmartAPI serves them free. Angel One names each stock by the exchange's number for it, and the desk finds that number for each name by itself. If Angel One refuses prices on the account, the desk uses the free feed (Yahoo) for the rest of the session.

The home ticker page shows the exchange's filings, and the results calendar for the home watchlist sits under Desk · Home.

What it does not show

No streaming ticks, no futures and options, no margin bar, no options tape: this file reads holdings, cash and prices. Those are optional additions a broker file can grow, and another broker describes the shape. Nothing places an order.
