The aircraft is designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers, or a targeted payload of up to 1,000 pounds, at speeds of up to 200 mph. The target range is up to 100 miles on a single charge. The company says it is targeting carrying its first passengers in 2026. Today its revenue comes from the Blade air charter broker service it acquired and from government flight services, demonstrations and engineering work.

Three routes to market

The company describes a plan to manufacture, operate and sell its aircraft. It has named three routes. The first is a Joby owned and operated air taxi service, in markets that include the United States and Dubai. The second is an affiliate owned and operated service, where established local partners operate Joby aircraft. The third is direct sales and defense.

Under direct sales, in 2025 the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Abdul Latif Jameel to explore delivery of up to 200 electric aircraft in Saudi Arabia. It also signed a letter of intent with Alatau Advance Air Group in Kazakhstan. It is working with L3Harris to adapt its platform for defense uses.

The company calls its model vertically integrated. It is developing Elevate OS, a proprietary operating system that links data across aircraft build, operations and maintenance. It is also developing a consumer app for on-demand aerial ridesharing.

The aircraft

Each of the six propellers is powered by two independent electric motors. Each motor is driven by its own drive-unit, and each drive-unit draws power from one of four separate batteries. In its noisiest configuration, during takeoff and landing, the aircraft has a noise profile in the range of 65 dBA. The company says it validated the noise footprint of its prototype through work with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Joby also built its own charging system, the Global Electric Aviation Charging System, and has made the specifications of its charging interface freely available to the industry. As of 31 January 2026 it held over 330 issued or allowed patents and had over 250 pending patent applications.

Certification and regulation

The company is certifying the aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It describes a five stage type certification process and says it has completed or substantially completed three stages and is more than halfway through the fourth. It holds a Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate from 2022, a Part 145 Repair Station Certificate from February 2024 and a Part 141 Flight School Certificate from December 2024.

Outside the United States, it applied for certification in the United Kingdom and Japan in 2022 and in Australia in 2024. It has also begun working with regulators in South Korea, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. A 2024 agreement with Dubai's Road and Transport Authority gives Joby the exclusive right to operate air taxis in Dubai for six years.

Where it builds

Powertrain and electronics engineering and manufacturing take place in San Carlos, California. In Marina, California, the company has 130,000 square feet of manufacturing, machining, assembly and flight test space. It completed a new 226,000 square foot building there in 2025. Its high-rate production facility is planned for Dayton, Ohio, where it bought a 40,300 square foot facility in 2024 and a 728,000 square foot facility in January 2026.

Partners and customers

Toyota, Uber and Delta Air Lines have each invested in Joby. Toyota is the largest outside investor and has a long-term supply agreement with Joby for key powertrain and actuation components.

The United States Air Force has been a customer. Joby delivered aircraft to the Department of Defense in 2023 and January 2025. In 2025 it demonstrated its Superpilot autonomous flight technology in an Air Force exercise.

Blade, acquired on 29 August 2025, remains a wholly owned subsidiary. It books passenger flights on helicopters and fixed wing aircraft through its associates, its app and third-party channels. The company says Blade gives it operating experience and relationships in New York City and Southern Europe.

Its people

None of the employees are represented by a labor union. In Marina the company runs a paid manufacturing apprentice program for people with no prior experience. Every employee is trained in the safety procedures relevant to their role.

A fourth quarter's EPS, and its diluted share count where shown, are from the company's results press release for that quarter, checked against the company's filed figures or a second data source. Money is in $ million as the company files it, or in $ billion by the switch above the tables; per share figures and the share count are as they are. Free cash flow is operating cash flow less capital expenditure; the effective tax rate is income tax over pre-tax income; margins are the line over revenue. Gross profit is revenue less cost of revenue, and operating income is revenue less the company's own total costs, where the statement does not print those lines. Cash flow lines filed year to date are the difference between two filings. Shares outstanding are at the period end where the balance sheet tags them, otherwise the count on the filing's cover page. A derived fourth-quarter EPS is left blank when a split in the year makes the arithmetic meaningless.
